Or in any year for that matter? Apart from the fact that the word "should" ought not to feature in your decision making process, the perfect honeymoon is highly subjective and varies from one couple to the next. Whilst you might love to read what the glossy magazines say is hot for 2019, when you think about it, it is really only someone else’s opinion, and why let that influence your decision on something so important.
For couples that have yet to decide what they would like to do, I usually have both of them make a list of what is on their bucket list and then we notes. Some popular ideas might be a safari, sailing on a clipper, climbing Kilimanjaro, taking the Orient Express to Venice, or a private water villa with a roof that opens to the stars and has its own slide. (see photo from Soneva Jani, below).
If the groom is planning a surprise honeymoon, the bride could also provide him with some suggestions that he can then embellish and create something “wow” in conjunction with a travel consultant, (Grooms, you will get brownie points for calling in an expert and showing your bride how important this is to you). The more the groom knows about his bride, the easier it will be to create special moments so give that some thought.
The best and most memorable trips are ones that are created just for the couple. Does the bride want that overwater villa, beach and spa, whilst the groom wants to be active? There are certain (not all) Indian Ocean islands that will tick both their boxes, so that whilst the bride is at the spa, the groom is snorkelling or fishing. Is barefoot luxury their thing? Again, there are certain properties where you take off your shoes when you arrive and don’t put them on again until you leave… bliss!

Giraffe Manor, Kenya
Perhaps you are more active and love food, art, history and wine. A few nights in Florence, followed by a week in the Tuscan countryside and five days at a beach resort in Sardinia might be just the thing.
Do you love animals and want to do a safari? How about a few nights at Giraffe Manor where you can feed the giraffes whilst you eat your breakfast, you can follow that with a stay in a 1920s safari camp and explore the Maasai Mara. Pure romance!
More active might be ziplining and climbing volcanoes in Costa Rica – and toasting marshmallows at the top! Or perhaps learning to dog sled in Northern Sweden with a champion husky sledder, or tracking Snow Leopards in Mongolia.
The world is your oyster and a honeymoon can be anywhere you want it to be, the key is to make it about you, the couple, and not anyone else.
It is about creating memories that will last you a lifetime.
If you really must know what the current trend is though, it is for personalised experiences and truly experiencing the destination.
