Continuing on the theme of what is luxury, Minaret Station will certainly meet many people's definition of luxury, and only partly because it is accessible by helicopter only, and is located in a glacial valley. (just above Lake Wanaka).
A 20 minute heli ride with breathtaking scenery will take you to New Zealand's first luxury tented camp. Owned and managed by the Wallis brothers and located on a 65,000 acre working farm, Minaret Station is the ultimate High Country experience.
Here you can relax and unwind in one of the four, under floor heated, fully insulated safari tents, bury your toes the thick sheepskin carpeting, enjoy spectacular views from your private hot tub, head out on a high country walk, fish, heli ski or heli hunt. The options are endless and designed to highlight all that is great about New Zealand.
Remember what I said about the light, the air, the scenery ? Breath in great lungfulls of it and enjoy, just remember leave your cell phone at home, there is no reception at the lodge, so one is obliged to switch off for a while - another luxury ?
For those unable to switch off entirely, wireless is available in the main lodge, but you do need to switch it on as this place is for serious nature seekers and escapees.
